Horace Mann Renovation Update
At Horace Mann, structural work continues including the installation of columns, beams, steel channels and frames. Selective brick and roof parapet demolition continues. Layout for interior spaces is ongoing. The building's roof will be replaced this summer. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing suspending hangers are beginning to be installed. Meier Hall Addition
At the Meier Hall addition, foundation and concrete work continues. Underground utility work is also ongoing. Facilities and the ITS team have initiated procurement of the project's audiovisual equipment contractor. Learn more about the Meier Hall Addition.
Decarbonization Project Update
College Drive is temporarily closed to support the installation of underground piping and exploratory work adjacent to the Berry Library and Learning Commons. The construction manager has completed 100% of the drilling for the geothermal wells (this is a significant milestone!). Circuit piping for the wells is ongoing. At the Central Utility Plant, the construction manager is advancing concrete slab rough-in including rebar and vapor barrier installation. A final concrete slab pour is tentatively scheduled for Monday, July 27. Window infill work is ongoing.
At the Upper Quad area, trench excavation has commenced. The construction manager has also initiated shoring, sheet piling and vacuum excavating at the trench area. This work is very noisy and will continue into next week.
Facilities is coordinating closely with the construction manager and university stakeholders on upcoming electrical shutdowns to support the project. An electrical shutdown is planned for Saturday, August 8 between 7 am-2 pm at the Sullivan and Administration Buildings. This shutdown will support the installation of a new electrical feeder. A two-day electrical shutdown at the Berry Library and Learning Commons is also tentatively scheduled for Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1. The shutdown is necessary to allow for the construction manager to safely remove ledge surrounding an electrical duct bank and to tie in a new breaker needed to support new equipment. Facilities is working to confirm the anticipated electrical impacts at the Berry Library and Learning Commons and will keep stakeholders informed as information is available.
