On Friday, August 31, 200 students, along with 125 student leaders, staff, alumni, and faculty, will fan out across the surrounding community for the third annual Moving Forward, Giving Back: 51³Ô¹Ï꿉۪s First Year Day of Service (MFGB).
MFGB is organized by 51³Ô¹Ï꿉۪s Center for Civic Engagement and its First Year Experience Office. About 30 community partners will welcome students for volunteer projects that include painting and building, preparing meals for shelters, registering people to vote, helping public schools prepare for the first day of school, and working on community gardens. The initiative is designed for students to become engaged with the greater 51³Ô¹ÏÍø community, make connections with new classmates and the community, and create lasting commitment to civic engagement and social responsibility.
In addition to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø State’s Center for Civic Engagement and its First Year Experience office, St. Jeans Credit Union, and the Rotary Club of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø are sponsors of the event.
